Lessons

Learn classical violin, piano, fiddling, or jazz violin from a professional! I teach beginning, intermediate, advanced level violin, and basic to intermediate piano. For my full list of qualifications, see my About page.

My timeslots are flexible and my pricing is competitive. These private lessons are one 1/2 hour session, once a week, $22 per lesson. Hour-long and 45-minute lessons are also available for intermediate and advanced students for the same pricing per half-hour.

My location is in Bluff Heights, on 6th Street between Orizaba and Obispo. Sorry, I don’t do travel-teaching: I can’t come to you.

You will need to have your own instrument for practice. If you are a new violin student, try renting one at World of Strings or Morey’s. Make sure you have the right size. I can help you if that process is foreign to you.

If you are a piano student, any keyboard will do. If you don’t have anything, try craigslist. Sometimes you can get a decent keyboard for as little as $15. Beginners won’t need the full 88 keys. You won’t need it for lessons, just your practice at home.

All ages 5 and older are welcome! It’s never too late to try something new. I can also give theory-only lessons for those of you who just want to learn how to read sheet music. Coaching for youth chamber groups is also available on request.

I use mostly Suzuki methods for violin, or Thompson for piano, in conjunction with original ear training and theory curriculum. Alternate method books are Essential Elements, the Faber series, All For Strings, and the Alfred series. Technique exercises using the Doflein, Galamian, Kreutzer, Wohlfahrt, Dozen a Day, and Flesch methods.
